Building Board Diversity and Representation (Part II) Originally Recorded May 13, 2022
In the journey of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at a nonprofit, everyone at your organization, including the board, can play a role and lead by example. Diversity is not a box an organization can check off and forget about. A nonprofit’s board composition can either help or hinder how connected an organization is to the communities they serve. Many nonprofits are looking to diversify their board, aiming to understand what a focus on DEI means for their organization and board members. Having a board with diverse perspectives, lived experiences, and expertise puts any organization in a stronger position to plan for the future, be adaptive, and make better decisions.
Over the course of a two-part series, AFP Chicago will explore building board diversity and representation through the following focus areas:
PART I covered:
- What DEI means for an organization
- What do we mean by board diversity and why is it important?
- Assessing the needs of the organization and the board
- Best Practices
- Board Retention
PART II
- Putting it into action and where we go from here
- Case studies from local nonprofits
Members: $20 Nonmembers: $30
This program is approved for 1 CFRE point.
