TOPIC: Fundraising for the Arts
Friday, July 17th | Noon – 1:00 pm

Join your AFP community for an in-depth discussion centered on fundraising for the arts in 2020 as the pandemic has changed the way art is shared and experienced. The current crisis has presented a particular challenge to organizations centered around art and the performing arts, as they rely upon community gatherings and shared experiences to connect with their donors and patrons. We want to start a conversation for our fundraising peers at arts organizations, who have had to adjust their goals and initiatives in order to fulfill their mission of bringing art and arts education to the community. We want to hear from YOU as our sector forges forward to keep the arts alive in Chicagoland communities. Join us for this AFP pop-up event focused on fundraising for the arts. RSVP today

Wednesday, July 22nd | Noon – 1:00 pm

With our peers, we will discuss what we’ve learned so far, speculate about the changes on the horizon, and celebrate those successes we’ve managed to have. Consider this your Letter of Invitation. RSVP today.

SPOTLIGHTS

AFP Chicago Fellows Spotlight
Gabriel Pachter, Cara

Gabriel Pachter has nearly 15 years’ experience in the nonprofit sector. He began his career working in supplemental Jewish education, before a brief stint as a middle school social studies teacher. While enrolled in two graduate programs through Indiana University, Gabriel worked for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Indiana as the Development Fellow. It was through this role that he fell in love with fundraising and pledged to help socially impactful organizations secure the resources they need to thrive. This pledge led Gabriel to Cara, where he now works as the Individual Giving Manager.
Can you tell us a little bit about your work at the Cara? What is your favorite part about working for the organization? As the Individual Giving Manager, I oversee our annual giving program and maintain a portfolio of major gift donors. I love the opportunity to share Cara’s story with donors and partners. This place is truly special. In addition to sharing our story and getting to build relationships with donors, I genuinely enjoy working with each and every one of my colleagues across departments and campuses. Each member of the team brings their full self to our work, and I am grateful to be able to do the same freely. read more

Something New for Peer Mentor Group
Noelle Moore, JD, CFRE, Philanthropy Director, JourneyCare Foundation

New platforms for fundraising. Virtual events. Video chats with donors. We are all experiencing new ways of doing our work but are we innovating fundraising? Should we innovate fundraising? In June AFP Chicago’s Peer Mentoring Committee launched a Quarterly Discussion Group for the protégé and mentor pairs to expand the network and give the mentoring participants an additional opportunity to meet others in our profession. Our first topic for discussion was inspired by an article from April’s Advancing Philanthropy magazine, Innovation: Is Attempting to Innovate Your Organization's Best Bet by Steven Screen. learn more
